MEDIANA IS OPEN AGAIN!

History class can begin! After ten years of work,  Areheological site Mediana, the seat of the most famous emperor born in Niš, Constantine the Great, has been reopened.

Since its opening, 10,000 visitors have seen the opulence and luxury of his residence, which dates back to the 4th century. A sufficient recommendation for you to follow the paths of the Roman emperors. Along the way, an unmissable point is a villa with a peristyle that served as a house for rest and enjoyment on the outskirts of the former Naissus. Carefully selected ornaments, mosaics and sculptures contribute to its luxurious appearance.

If you can't imagine how much space is needed to accommodate 8,000 people, the remains of an amphitheater of that capacity might conjure the picture. There is also a trade center, thermal complexes, houses and villas of Emperor Constantine and his successors.

Mediana was once an important trade and passenger station on the Roman imperial road that connected Rome with the East. Today it is one of the most important tourist attractions in Niš.

See for yourself why the citizens of Niš are so proud of it. During the winter, the site is open every day except Mondays, from 10 am to 3 pm.
