The first typical military artillery fortification on the right bank of the Danube, in the territory of the municipality of Veliko Gradište.
On the right bank of the Danube, on a steep stone cliff, you will find the medieval town of Ram. Historical sources say that Sultan Bayazit II built the fortress here in 1483. The base of the fortress has an irregular five-sided shape. Entry to the fortress was via the keep, with four more towers evenly almost arranged next to it. All the towers had a ground floor and three floors with openings for cannons. The ramparts walkway and the towers had a parapet with spikes on the outside to shelter the soldiers. The Ram Fortress was built as a typical military artillery fortification. It was surrounded by two outer ramparts and a deep moat, and entry was via a drawbridge.
In the central part of the fortress are the remains of a mosque, while nearby is a 15th-century caravanserai. The caravanserai itself and the nearby hammam show us that the fortress was not only important in times of war, but in times of peace as well, when it protected merchants and gave them a place to spend the night and rest on their way. An Orthodox church dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel was built within the caravanserai.
