European statistics show that camping that represents a quarter of the total tourist traffic, had the lowest decrease rate in 2020, according to Eurostat. During the high tourism season (April to September), hotels recorded the highest drop of minus 63 percent, while the EU campsites were the least affected tourist accommodation type (-38%). Similarly, the situation in Serbia followed the EU statistics, so camping spots in attractive areas had a somewhat higher number of visitors compared to 2019.
According to experts in the field, another tourist product emerges by combining rural tourism with camping. It has the potential to become exclusive given the authentic experience that attracts foreign visitors. Remote locations without any light or noise pollution are more often on-demand.
