If you would like to start this year’s summer with something a little different, choose places where you will be able to see some of the stunning caves in Serbia. The visiting season is open and you should just decide whether to visit the largest cave entrance in the Balkans, huge limestone tubs, or the Crystal Hall.
The soil beneath our country is perfect for narrow trenches and halls in the ground. When you take a path that takes you deeper down with temperatures about seven or eight degrees Celsius, you will realize the true magnificence of the underground halls that often stay hidden from one’s eye.
A lot of you will be in Zlatibor this June, so why wouldn’t you stop by Stopića Cave with a roaring underground waterfall? Near Užice there is Potpeć Cave and not far from Aranđelovac Risovača which was a settlement for Neanderthal hunters during the Stone Age.
Rajko’s Cave is only two kilometers from Majdanpek and there is also one of the longest caves in Serbia nearby - Lazareva Cave which was popular among gold diggers in olden times. One of the best-known caves - Resavska is situated 20 kilometers from Despotovac and will welcome you with a rich decoration. Stalagmites and stalactites don’t fall back in Cerjanska Cave close to Niš. Its halls and corridors are as high as 40 meters!
