KING'S PREMISES - UNDERGROUND

The labyrinth of rooms built in the rock is situated near Mali Zvornik and commissioned by no other than a king.

Aleksandar Karađorđević I ordered this underground town to be dug into the hill in 1931 to be able to accommodate a few thousand people. It was supposed to be used by royal dynasty and government members in case of war. The king was assassinated three years later in Marseille before the town was finished. It was only used once by Aleksandar's son Petar Karađorđević II in 1941 where the young prince spent his last night in Serbia before the exile. This is also where the last session of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia’s government was held.

Beneath tons of rocks, there are about 70 premises, halls, and rooms painted in white. The sole fact that the labyrinth was constructed under the code the Stone Girl, can somewhat discern the atmosphere.

Just remember that this place was sealed for decades. Today, you can take a walk along its 1.5 kilometers long line of halls and even visit the King's Apartment - underground.
