Find the monastery founded by Đurađ Branković
When mountaineering and hiking are mentioned, visitors often mistakenly think that they need to be in good shape.
Fruška Gora demonstrates that any curious traveller who loves nature can spend a pleasant day walking through the forest with twigs crunching underfoot on the steep sections, without getting too tired. The hiking trails on this mountain are easily accessible to a large number of people, even children.
It is best to get a map of the hiking trails and choose your route based on what you would like to see along the way. Check which viewpoints or monasteries the trails will take you to.
Fruška Gora is known as the “Serbian Holy Mountain” because of its 16 monasteries. Almost nowhere else has so many monasteries in such a small area. Every Orthodox temple has a spring and a monastery settlement. Find out which monastery was founded by Đurađ Branković in the early 14th century. Did you know that this is also the place of his first endowment?
Sources of “healing water” are also associated with certain monasteries. Check which of them still has a carved inscription of gratitude from a certain Dubrovnik resident who, as he says, was cured of a serious illness.
One of the most attractive picnic spots on Fruška Gora is Zmajevac and visitors often take it as a landmark.
From Zmajevac, you can go down to Vrdnik or Rakovačka Cave.
One path leads to Lake Ledinci and Iriški venac, the other to the popular Brankovac viewpoint. Visiting in person, you can make sure you see the whole of Novi Sad from here.
For those who would like to try a slightly more demanding walk, the Fruška Gora trails also lead to Sremski Karlovci. Check your fitness and walk through the deciduous forests to Stražilovo. Take a winding path to get there. Find out why campers and hikers rest here.
