Zlatar is a mountain in Western Serbia that is known not only for its hilly landscapes and pine forests but also for its lakes located more than 800 metres above sea level.
Visit some of the most beautiful sights in Serbia and find out how the Uvac river managed to make its famous meanders.
Viewpoints around these lakes are accessible to everyone. Some by foot and others by car. When you get above Radoinja Lake, try fried dough-balls (”uštipci”) with homemade kaymak near the Vraneša lookout point.
You can swim at the beach at Zlatar Lake. Find out when this bright green water is at its warmest during the summer, as its altitude and environment mean that it is cooler than lake water under “normal” conditions.
Bring your friends and zip line down. Float just above the dense pine forest. That’s what you’ll be talking about when you get back.

Tourists of all ages love the Zlatar paths because the gentle climbs in the shade of pine trees are much more pleasant than the summer rush on city streets.
Winter snow drifts create wonderful natural decorations, giving the whole area a new atmosphere. Treat yourself to a summer vacation at Zlatar or a romantic New Year’s Eve.
Be sure you try the famous Zlatar buckwheat pastry (”heljdopita” or ”eldovna”). Did you know that buckwheat only grows at altitudes above 1,000 metres? It works great here.
