City of big dreams

Are you looking for an adventure that will take you off the beaten path, into the heart of a dreamy city that leaves no one indifferent?

Legend has it that Novi Sad was founded by Serbian merchants in the 17th century, attracted by the fertile land and strategic location. Over time, the city became a centre of commerce and culture, attracting people from all over Europe. Located on the Danube banks, Novi Sad exudes an eclectic mix of centuries-old history charm and modern spirit. Cobbled streets with charming cafes, boutiques and craft shops reflect the unique personality of this city.

But Novi Sad is much more than a pretty face. Its rich heritage and numerous museums, galleries and theatres earn it the title of the Serbian capital of culture for 2022. At every step, you can enjoy the local art scene and feel the creative energy of the city.Novi Sad turns its grey facades into large colourful murals. The city is decorated with fantastic street art that combines photo-realism with illustration.

On the other side of the Varadin Bridge, there is Petrovaradin, one of the best-preserved and most beautiful fortresses in Europe, built in the 18th century and also known as Gibraltar on the Danube. Today, the fortress is an art centre with recognised artists’ studios, underground corridors, a fantastic view and the famous “drunken clock” whose large hand shows the hours and small hand the minutes, so that the Danube boatmen know what time it is. Every July, Petrovaradin is the venue of one of the biggest music festivals in Europe, Exit. In good weather, you can join the locals in sunbathing and swimming on the Štrand, a 700-metre-long beach on the Danube. At low tide, it is possible to walk to Fisherman’s Island and enjoy the great food, ambience and sunset. A short car or bike ride takes you to the rolling hills of the Fruška Gora National Park, where hiking and biking trails and beautiful lakes await. Known for its good wines, this region is rich in wine cellars and romantic taverns (“čarda”), which you should not miss. Connoisseurs say that the famous Bermet, a local dessert wine, was served on the Titanic.

Rich history. Warm people. Unforgettable gastronomy.

Novi Sad is calling you.

Interesting fact: Due to its size and importance, the Petrovaradin fortress is also known as Gibraltar on the Danube, and one of its symbols is the famous “drunken clock” whose large hand shows the hours and small hand the minutes, so that the Danube boatmen know what time it is.
