Among the many festivals on the rivers of Serbia, a special place belongs to the “Serbian Rio Carnival”. It is not so important whether the Drina Regatta got that epithet because of the fun, the hot atmosphere, the colours or the music.
Fun is guaranteed here for sure.
The Drina regatta in Bajina Bašta brings together everyone who loves the river and cheerful company. People enjoy drinks, food and music in the several-kilometre-long procession of colourful rubber boats and other vessels. The most enjoyable part is the atmosphere and socialising. This is where old friends strengthen their ties and new friendships are easily made, most often with the crew of the neighbouring boat.

The programme lasts for five days, always from Wednesday to Sunday. The most visited day is Saturday when, according to tradition, the main event takes place, the big descent down the Drina.
Other programmes of the festival are either on or alongside the Drina, because you can’t live without the river here. There is a fair of honey, brandy, souvenirs and handicrafts, a competition in the preparation of fish soup, as well as concerts of folk and pop music. Watching the jumps from the bridge into the Drina, where the bravest and most daring compete, is a special experience.
Although each of the festival’s programmes has its own charm, the big descent should not be missed. The energy from the Drina procession is something that every participant takes home as a souvenir!
