All the flavors of the south in one place

Ćevapi, minced meat donuts (“uštipci”), souvlaki (“raznjići”), burger (“pljeskavica”), pork loin (“vešalica”), “mućkalica” – these grilled dishes are on the menu of almost all the restaurants in Serbia.

Although the offer of these dishes is widespread, true gourmands and lovers of meat cooked over fire and smoke should put Leskovac, the unofficial world capital of barbecue, on their list of places worth visiting.

In late August and early September, the main street of Leskovac becomes the kingdom of meat, because the largest and most visited meat and barbecue festival in this part of Europe takes place there – the Leskovac roštiljijada or barbecue festival.

This one-of-a-kind outdoor restaurant welcomes around half a million people in the seven days of the event! Despite the big crowds, there are no reservations needed for lunch or dinner.

There is plenty of food, and the smells are alluring…  Pork and lamb are prepared on the spit, while wedding cabbage simmers in pots. The authentic flavours of the south will delight foodies and lovers of a good bite, as well as those curious who want to try something different.

The Leskovac barbecue festival is known for its evening entertainment and concerts by the biggest music stars, but also for its competitions. The best barbecue masters gather here and organise a competition for the biggest burger in the world. Visitors can not only see how a Guinness World Record burger is prepared, grilled and flipped, but also taste it once it has been made! And that is not to be missed!
